Who. . . A Word About Patti Perry

Amazing how time flies when you’re having fun!
The Eating Disorders Clinic Inc. started out as my private practice (really a secret dream of mine) in 1980. I have been involved in treating eating disorders and related disordered eating problems both in the
My passion was and is (and I believe, always will be) working with clients and helping them to help themselves heal the pain of childhood and adolescence, dysfunctional families, trauma and other unpredictable experiences of life.
Some of you may recognize my name from the media education I have done in the past. The name recognition may be connected to a face from the TV Ontario Series (1989), The Weight Craze and other television work I’ve done.
Over the years, I have written, spoken and presented at numerous conferences, workshops and meetings on the topic of eating issues and their attendant problems. I have read, been supervised, communicated and collaborated with many experts throughout the world. I have been influenced and mentored by the best in the field and I am grateful to them.
I have been involved with Sheena’s Place, a unique, one of a kind, hospice, support center for individuals and their families affected by eating disorders. I have facilitated groups that address issues of healing emotional abandonment, self esteem, anger management and impulse control issues of stealing, self harm, and other compulsive behaviors. As well, my previous groups have concentrated on the emotional underpinnings of disordered eating, using experiential treatment techniques, employing the use of metaphor and therapeutic stories in therapy.
As a clinician I am interested in supervision and teaching and thus have created therapeutic tools for use in therapy. Combining other skills and interests, I have produced a set of “Expression Bean Bags” to facilitate experiential work on feelings; an “Inner Child Doll Packet” for use in creating and nurturing inner child work; monographs of “Relaxation Mediation” for use in groups and a set of “Affirmation Towels” for support and encouragement.
My most current work involves the application of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the Maudsley Method in Family Based Therapy, and mindfulness. I conduct a Christian, faith based support group for women of faith who struggle with disordered eating as well as depression, anxiety, trauma and addictions.
As I move into the ‘twilight’ of my career, I utilize Christian faith, and spirituality. I consider myself a Christian therapist. I treat individuals from all faiths and religions, those without any faith at all, those from many different cultures and sexual orientations of gay and lesbian, and transgendered.
I am working on a manual based on relaxation and meditation for use in groups. I will be posting material regularly on this site. Much of the writing will be original, however, some will have been gathered from other authors. The source will be documented and credited to appropriate source. I will attempt to add to the material on a regular basis. Please feel free to duplicate, share and disperse my writing to others who may be interested. I would appreciate the documentation of Patti Perry as its source.
Finally, feel free to communicate with me via email. Obviously, I cannot make diagnoses by phone or email and it would be unethical to attempt to do therapy on line. However, if you are interested in a consultation, please feel free to contact me by phone. I usually do a brief telephone screening interview and then arrangements can be made for a face to face interview. As well, supervision and training are available to individuals for professional education. Since this is private clinic, there is a fee for service.
